The results of the sixth form national A level examinations have been awaited with great anxiety on the part of many students here in Tanzania. Lucia was among those who were desparate to know what the results were since places at university and other tertiary education establishements are so difficult to come by and competitively sought after.
You can imagine our delight and the great joy of Lucia herself when the results appeared and she had passed with 'Division 1, Six points'. This is an extremely high award for any student and means in UK terms that Lucia got A, B and C in here three principle subjects. Division 1 guarantees her an offer of a place in University where if all goes according to plan she would like to study international relations. Hopefully the planned trip for Lucia to UK for one year will set her off on the right footing in her international relations career and the universities will agree to postpone her place for study to the following academic year. Praise God for the work he is doing in the lives of many of the young people in MCCC and keep praying for others who are studying in colleges and in upper high school even at the present time.

Hey! We're still here... and with GLO camp 2009!

The GLO camp 2009 was early this year owing to some family committments that Allan & Jacqui have back in UK in June. The team was very specialised and Allison Hill, our regular 'director' was accompanied by Jason Westmoreland who is a puppeteer, magician and clown! (Oh and that's what he says about himself as well, honest!) Linda Watson also joined us in week one and with the existing personnel on the ground in Moshi (Matthew, David, Scott and Louise) we were able to give more than eighty kids an absolute ball over the two weeks.

Week one was for the children from our community care programme. The hail from around the Moshi district villages and love being at camp. This year, Juggles the clown (Jason), was keeping them entertained as they learned the story of the Bible and in particular the Easter story during their time in Moshi Christian Children's Centre.

The kids had other opportunities to draw, play, sing, do drama and puppets themselves, and to hear the good news of Jesus dying for them so they could be forgiven their sins. Four children wanted to make the committment to follow Jesus as their own Saviour and Lord. We were very excited that God had blessed us again in our goal of Making Children Count for Christ!

The second week was a little bit special because we had invited nearly forty children from another poor orphanage on the mountain to come and join us. This was a huge highlight for them and us and they were sorry to go at the end of the camp. Many of them though poor in the things of this world were rich in kingdom values and knew the Lord and the importance of prayer and Bible reading. They were experts in learning the memory verses and could sing many of the choruses in English. Of particular blessing to us while they were with us was their rendition of 'Hosana! Hosana! Hosana to the king of kings!'

It was great to hear from Moshi that a number of the kids have made progress in their spiritual lives. One of our boys gave his life to the Lord Jesus and FIVE of the other children decided they would like to move ahead in their life of faith by being baptised in obedience to the command of Jesus to his disciples.

One of the exciting developments over the recent months has been the opportunity to invest in people and their training. As part of our ongoing committment to seeing Tanzanian people in charge and responsible for the work at MCCC we have been given a huge boost by the Maxwell Scholarship Fund. Owing to generous funding through this charitable trust we have been able to offer a scholarship programme to one student per year who is a graduate of the Training For Life Programme run at Berea Bible College. The student who will benefit will work at the children's centre for one year, then be sent for training in a diploma course in social welfare, before joining us for a final year of service. We are excited about the opportunities this will create to have Tanzanian Christians in place for the care and compassionate ministry of social care among their own people. Ainess will be our first trainee and she bagan her course in October 2007 after working with us since July last year.

The new pick-up finally arrives!

It was with great excitement that we made the trip through to Arusha to collect our new pick-up, a Toyota Hilux 2.5TD double cabin - wow! Really cool! The car was supplied through the kindness and generosity of our friends at Cartsbridge Evangelical Church, Busby, Glasgow. Many of you will know that Melanie Fyfe from that church was working with us over the past couple of years and her parents visit to Moshi just before Mel left brought the news of this tremendous gift for God's work.
The car was ordered way back in February 2007 but Tanzania being Tanzania it has taken until late July to take possession.
Certainly it has been worth waiting for... as you can see from the photo.

We'd like to thank everyone at Cartsbridge for their generous giving to the MCCC ministry. This new tool will be vital to the effective execution of our responsibilites in the centre and in the community. We praise God for you all.

Uchira - week two of GLO

Immediately after the super week at MCCC we headed of to the community of Uchira with the GLO team to do more of the same... The week had been planned around a specific invitation to the primary 4 and 5 classes of the local school which amounted to a potential 100 kids in the programme. In reality the week ran at 150-200 kids each day and we eventually had to concede to having a "guest" team among the children who were 'uninvited'. It was another superb week and the whole programme ran very smoothly. By the end of the week many of the children wanted to know how to trust the Lord Jesus as their own Saviour. We gave them opportunity to meet with us as we shared the gospel in more detail with them, and 37 children responded to the good news of Jesus. It's no wonder that Jesus said the kingdom of heaven belonged to such as these!

Its Friday, its six o’clock, and GLO camp 2007 has all but come to an end at MCCC. What a week we have had… 48 children and helpers were joined by the seven members of the GLO team sent from Scotland: Ashley Harris, Allison Hill, Charlotte Gibson, Christine Lee, David Crawford, Alan Guy and Stephen Watson. All that remains is tonight’s talent show from the children – always a most entertaining affair!

The theme for the week was ‘Let’s Celebrate’ and that is exactly what we did. Starting on Monday, the voices of children singing songs and screaming encouragement at fellow team members became the norm for the rest of the week. Our daily activities always included singing, quizzes, stories from the Bible, crafts, games and memory verses. All the stories were based around the sayings of the Lord Jesus in John’s gospel. We learned that Jesus said, ‘I am the bread of life…’, ‘I am the light of the world...’, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life…’, ‘I am the good shepherd…’ and ‘I am the resurrection and the life…’.

The children were divided into teams for various aspects of the competitive side of the camp and each team given names of soft drinks: Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Fanta, Mirinda, Sprite and Tangawizi. The Pepsi team collected the final award for the week and many other individual prizes were given out too.

One highlight for this year was the addition of our swimming pool to afternoon activities. On Tuesday and Thursday we had a ball with most of the children taking part in using the pool at one time or another. For some of them this was the first time to go swimming and you can imagine the shrieks and screams of delight.

At the end of camp there is always opportunity for the children to make a response to the message of the Gospel that they have been hearing. This is never done under any kind of pressure or persuasion but we believe it is important for the children who sense a need to respond to Jesus. One young lad this year, called Charles (12), came to the meeting room of his own accord at the appointed time and expressed his desire to know Jesus as his Saviour. We were delighted to be able to direct him to the Saviour. What a wonderful way for our camp to end.

Thanks to every one of our supporters who prayed for us, the team and the children this week. Remember the camp planned for next week at Uchira when we expect to have more than 100 kids! Special thanks to Alan Guy and our friends at Strathclyde Police who helped raise funds and sent over some really cool prizes! Thanks to GLO (www.glo-europe.org) for their partnership with us in this ministry.

It is with much praise and thanks to God that we can report that our good friend Adrian is through his operation and on the road back to a large measure of health. He is continuing with treatment and so we'd ask you as a prayer partner to keep on praying with us for a full and complete recovery. And don't give up.

24 hours for 3 mountains for 32 kids

Ashley Gibson together with 26 others set off to climb three of the highest mountains in the UK - Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. The event was not only a test of their own stamina and endurance but also an excuse to raise funds for the children at MCCC. The weather was not the kindest it could have been but nevertheless 22 managed to complete the task and 17 made it within the time constraints! An amazing feat for all concerned. Well done guys! Next year you could try the three highest peaks in the world - we'll give you three weeks!!

Harris Family standing in the need of prayer

It was with real shock that news reached the MCCC team of the sudden illness of our dear brother and partner in the ministry, Adrian Harris. Adrian was admitted to surgery and we got committed to prayer. After a rough time in hospital for him and tough time wrestling for him in prayer for us we are pleased to say that he will be released from hospital imminently. Join us in praying that the living Lord will continue to be seen in action answering our prayers for recovery, rehabilitation, and results that demonstrate a reversal of Adrian's past condition. Remember the rest of the family too, Ruth his wife, Ashley, Jonny and Daniel. We praise God for answered prayer thus far...

Having a swimming time

Melanie Fyfe left quite an heritage behind when she left Moshi! The swimming pool that she and her parents left for the kids has been a major hit and is used regularly by the children these days. With temperatures in Moshi reaching 32 deg C the pool is a welcome relief after 10 hours at school! Saturday past saw the youngest of our children get their opportunity to swim with Baba Mdogo supervising! Emmanuel and Jimmy were fearless and that in spite of the fact that it was their first time to be swimming! Both had their heads under the water within minutes of being in with their older counterparts who had clearly set the example!

Education Fund

A key to breaking the cycle of poverty that traps so many of the children in our community care programme is education. The education fund has been set up to allow some of our supporters who feel they would like to direct their funding more specifically in the area of education.

Lucila did so well at her primary leaving exam we felt we had to offer her the chance to continue in secondary school outside of the goverment education system where she had been offered a place. She managed to pass the entrance exam to Faraja Seminary and was over the moon at being offered a place.

Peter who is an AIDS orphan also got a good pass in primary seven and with our intervention was able to get a placement at one of the better government boarding schools in the region instead of a local under-funded and under-staffed village school.

Happiness was just full of happiness when she was told we were offering her the opportunity to go to a vocational training centre her in town for a one year home-craft course. There she will learn how to use a sewing machine, knit, crochet, cook, and be able to brush up her basic academic studies.

There are many other children who could use YOUR help - why not make a change in the life direction of one of these young people that we have been supporting by making a gift to the education fund.

Teacher Training College for Upendo

Upendo succeeded in securing a place in the two year teacher training programme at St. Mary's in Dar-es-salaam. She started immediately after her interview and has been in the college for three weeks now. She has settled in quickly and made new friends. Her room-mate accompanied her to church on Sunday past where they worshipped with Steve and Gill Davies, our missionary colleagues from Dar.

Christmas Holidays - Wet and Wild

Our annual trip with the children and young people under our care to Dar-es-salaam took place between Christmas and New Year. It was a special event in as much that we had several joining us for the first time on this highly sought after trip. It was also the first time for the older boys from Maranatha House to come with us. The departure day came with much anticipation...

Twenty three of us in total found our way into our 15-seater mini-bus and with the remainder in the Reas' Land Rover which was at our disposal. Luggage kept to a minimum - well you only need your swimming gear (!) - and a few food supplies for the journey and off we went.

Ten hours later, weary and worn we rolled into the Burger Bar for the first treat of the holidays - burger and chips followed by ice cream and soda! Fantastic!

The Davies had kindly agreed to house swap with us again and the excess (the girls from E. House) were seconded out to a guest house nearby. The following days were beach, beach and more beach. Flumes and slides at Waterworld. A visit to our very own desert island - Mbudja, a speed boat trip of ten minutes off the Dar coast. All punctuated by good food, ice cream, photographry sessions and much swimming. We spotted tree climbing crabs on the desert island as big as dinner plate - and we're not exaggerating! Snorkelling for the few who were able was an eye popping experience as they were introduced to the world below the waves. The coral and fish off the coast of our little island were absolutely spectacular.

The evening epilogues were led by our own older young people from Emmanuel and Maranatha house and it was great to hear them share and explain what they knew of their faith in Christ.

The wet of the ocean and pools was accompanied by the wild of the wind and rain on the last day with flooding in Dar-es-salaam that badly damaged one of the bridges we were supposed to use to go home. Long single file traffic in the city cost us two hours addition to our journey home but we praise and thank God for a wonderful holiday.

Welcome Jimmy to MCCC!

The social impact of AIDS on the Tanzanian community is frighteningly traumatic. The work force of Africa is being dramatically eroded as was made evident in the reports given on World Aids Day (1st December). Kilimanjaro Region is not exempt from the trauma.
Jimmy is six years old. His father died of AIDS. His mother ran away and is most likely dead or dying. His grandmother is his only remaining guardian eight of whose children have all died of AIDS. Two remain, one of whom is mentally disturbed!
Jimmy was wandering the streets of the local destitute camp when a Baptist pastor came across him. Contact with the pastor through our friends the Dodsons brought Jimmy to MCCC.
Jimmy who is HIV negative, has been with us now for just over one month and has settled down reasonably well. He has been attending our own kindergarten school and appears to be a bright young lad. As a result we have sought out a place for him at Eden Garden school. He will need your prayers and much support if he is to succeed in class in Pre-school as from January 2007.
Jimmy will ‘go home’ twice a year to the Baptist pastor and his wife. We really feel for this young boy and appreciate the efforts of the pastor who himself is very poor.
There are still opportunities to sponsor children like Jimmy through the ministry of MCCC.

Lucia completes Form IV and awaits the results...

Lucia has completed Form IV education which has resulted in a big celebration. Together with a bunch of her friends we were able to celebrate the matter with a visit to the newest restaurant in town called "Italian Passion". Tall dark and handsome men (mostly Tanzanians!) were waiting hand and foot on us all evening. Pizza was the order of the day washed down with gallons of coke, spite, fanta, etc.
A special cake had been especially prepared for her and offered the congratulations she deserved after 11 years of education. Lucia would love to be an accountant and is hopeful of passing well enough to progress her education to senior secondary level. Pray with us that she will get the passes she needs.
Nina is doing well in her Form V education and Upendo who is still in the UK will soon be wending her way back to Tanzania at the end of November. Pray too for the other girls in secondary - Paulina, Anna-Maria, Susana. The guys too I guess, Eriki, Emmanuel, Richard, Boniface, Banta and Jonny.

Freedom from bondage to sin and Satan

Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, says the Bible. It has always been the goal of MCCC ministries to convey news to the people to whom we minister. The initial letters of Moshi Christian Children's Centre also declare the firm conviction that we have about the work that we do and the direction it will follow: "Making Children Count for Christ".
It has been with that goal in mind that we have been doing more work in the community where we can demonstrate very practically and socially the faith that we have in God's power to change lives through Christ and set men and women, boys and girls free from the bondage to sin and Satan which marrs and destroys life.
Bibi Japheth (the grandmother of Calista and her older brother Japheth) had been visited on our community programme many times. It was evident from a number of pointers that she was involved in traditional medicines and witchcraft. On one occasion when Allan and Jacqui visited her home a 'snake' which was more like a 2ft long slow worm, white in colour, was slithering around their feet in the crampt conditions. Allan was about to stamp it to death when she intervened to explain that it was 'their relative' and he had come by to visit for some sustenance! Killing the snake would in her traditional African worldview bring terrible suffering and anguish to the family who were still alive. (These ancestors who reputedly manifest themselves like this are known as 'the living dead'.) Bibi Japheth also used charms and spells with the two children in her care 'to protect them from evil spirits'. Little did she know that interfering in occult and witchcraft practice channels evil spirits and brings harm to the participants - Satan has always been the father of lies and a deceiver.
After the recent GLO meetings, Wens our social welfare officer got the opportunity to speak to her again about these matters. She was most surprised about the dark and evil powers that were truly associated with her superstitions and actions with and on behalf of the children. She was delighted to be told of the protection and authority over evil spirit Jesus has as the son of God. She was keen to understand that the protection that she sought elsewhere was to be found in Jesus alone! She decided to ask the Lord Jesus Christ te become her new Master and protector. Freedom was hers! No longer under a master who is deceitful, sinful and cruel she has found a new joy and peace in a Master who always cares, always protects.

Apologies and some family news...

It has been some time since the blogspot has had an undate and for this we apologise profusely. This has not been as a result of wanton neglect but of circumstancial constaints! I know a pathetic excuse. The children's centre has been enjoying some free sailing after the GLO team left and the majority of the children are back in school, etc. There are still one or two around who have different school holidays, particularly among boarding students so it is always nice to see them back with us here. Kelvin, Hadija, Emmanuel and Esther continue to keep us on our toes as the youngest of our children here at the centre. Please remember to pray for these kids who have so many problems and baggage that they carry in their little minds and hearts and which is so difficult for them to understand or cope with. Pray for our MCCC family.
Allan spent almost six weeks in bed with pneumonia during the month of July/August which was a shock to us all in that he caught that here in the tropics and it was a trial for him in the restrictions it placed on him. Glad to say he is now up and around again.
Jacqui is actually back in the UK just now with our daughter Judith and husband Ash awaiting the arrival of the first of the next generation! Yes we are soon to be grandparents... watch this space!
Ben got himself a few IGCSE's in the bag over the summer and is to be congratulated. He will be sitting a few more in the year to come as preparation for his return to UK education.

GLO 2006 as good as ever!

The GLO team have been in action over the past two weeks at MCCC as they take our two sets of kids through a fun-packed week of games, action, quizzes, Bible stories, singing, handicafts and friendship. Approx 40 kids each week joined us in the MCCC while many of our regular kids were visiting with relatives over the school holidays. The team from GLO Europe, Motherwell, Scotland were actually a mixture of Scots, English and Irish as well as a bit of Italian influence among a couple of them.
The children had a ball during the time with us at the centre and left laden with hats, t-shirts, gifts, Bibles, colouring equipment, folders of goodies from our handicraft activities and so forth. Many wanted to stay on with us over the weekend when it came time for them to leave on Friday afternoon but that was not possible.
The highlight of the GLO camp is when children make a response to Christ having heard of his love and concern for them. The Christian message brings great hope and assurance of heaven founded on the unchanging Word of God and the faith of children to respond to that message is a constant reminder to us all of the faith needed to enter the kingdom of heaven. We we delighted when four of the children openly delcared their desire to follow Jesus as their Saviour and Lord.
Our many thanks go to our friends at GLO who organise and run these short mission trips. They are a huge encouragement for their own team members, for the staff at MCCC, for the Christians in Moshi who learn so much about children's ministry and not least for the leadership of the centre. We look forward to having you all back next year!

Running for MCCC

Well done to Jenny Robertson, wee sister of Allan, who successfully completed the Glasgow Women's 10k on Sunday 21st in a great time of 71 minutes. This was Jenny's first attempt at 10,000 metres and she raised in excess of £130 for the children's centre. Grateful thanks to all her sponsors. Who knows, maybe next year some more of the 'mccc ladies' will join her in running for the centre? While Allan and Jacqui have been touring the UK and will shortly be moving on to the USA the work at MCCC continues. We praise God that things have continued smoothly under the watchful eye of Melanie Fyfe, Yusto, Wens and Mama Jave. Not to forget William and Eunice who have found the time to help develop the new playground at MCCC. The photos show the relocation of our swings into a shaded area as well as the construction of the new see-saw and a climbing frame of some kind... watch this space for further developments! The Jungle Gym has been a great idea funded by a school in UK and a certain 'couch potato' who thought it was a great idea for kids to get a playground! Many thanks to them all - generosity is an excellent form of exercise in our opinion!!

Easter with Upendo in UK

It was great to have the chance of spending the holiday weekend with our family and Upendo at Millport on the Great Cumbrae, an island in the Firth of Clyde. We stayed in the lovely
'Sailaway' cottage, and in between showers managed to fit in walking, exploring, cycling, resting and eating our chocolate Easter eggs!
Cycling around the island is one of the main attractions of Millport and most of us managed to complete the 12 mile trip without falling off!
Monday came too quickly and Upendo had to be back at work at Abernethy Outdoor Centre, in time to cook the evening meal for a group of hungry kids who had just arrived for their own week of excitement and activity in Nethy Bridge.

Bookshop ministry

KLB Duka La Vitabu ~ The church at Pasua has a small bookshop nearby as a witness to the local community. Christian books in both the swahili language and at an affordable price are in very short supply. The church regularly opens a small book stall at the local market where there is a genuine interest and hunger for the gospel.

We rejoice with John and Prisca, and the boys Emmanuel and Michael as they celebrate the safe arrival of their new baby and wee brother Joseph. John and Prisca are temporarily staying at the MCCC hostel. Please pray for them both at this time as they deal with the practical and financial challenges of providing for another wee one. John is a new christian and would especially appreciate your prayers as he struggles to free himself from some aspects and habits of the 'old life'. The oldest boy, Emmanuel benefits from attending the MCCC kindergarten thanks to supporters of the new education fund.

Kasi Senga

Kasi is a young man from Moshi who has lived at the centre for a number of years now and we have seen his health deteriorate considerably with a muscle wasting disease since he first arrived. He is now totally dependant on care asistance for all his needs and is completely wheel chair bound. Kasi is delighted by the recent move into Maranatha House with the older boys and this has given him an increased measure of independance and self reliance. He is a valuable leader of the YF at KLB Pasua and a mentor for the older boys at the centre. Kasi is an inventive entrepreneur and runs a small business from the centre crafting bead work for sale. Some of his work is on display and available in the UK with Allan & Jacqui. We would ask you to pray with us for Kasi's health and a very real current need for a special disabled bed to provide him comfort at night.

Living water in Moshi

The highlight of March 2006 has been the successful installation of a borehole on the property at Berea Bible College. We have been waiting for this event for more than one year and it has been tremendous to see it completed in only two days of drilling! We praise God for this supply of water which will bring a new freedom in our water consuption on site which has been regulated until now by a poor supply and high expense.
This provision pales into insignificance when we consider the promise that Jesus made to those who are thirsty in their spiritual lives when he offered the woman at the well living water that would spring up to eternal life (John 4:1ff).

Training For Life

Training for Life is an exciting course for school leavers run by Christians in Moshi in order to help equip young people in personal life skills. The course which lasts for two and one half months is currently being attended by 24 students - 20 girls and 4 boys! The Berea Bible College buildings which have featured on our site here have been used by the course leadership to host the event this year and our BBC personnel have been involved not only in administration matters but also teaching in the classroom. Navigators, the Bible teaching ministry are involved in teaching the biblical aspects of the course.

Hi everyone! It is great to be back in UK and the snow, flu, running noses and cold feet are hitting us hard! First of all, since this is our first direct contribution to the blog, a HUGE thanks to Adrian for the momentus task that he has done in getting the blog up and running. More over big man - the technological wizards of Africa have arrived!

This coming weekend we have a GLO seminar on Thursday pm at the GLO Centre, Motherwell and then on Friday we are of to Gartmore House for our Greenview Church weekend. This will be a great chance to catch up with old friends, learn God's word and play snowballs!

Before we go, have a look at the new toilet block being rendered in the hours before we left!

They are home!!!

Good news! Allan and Jacqui arrived safely home in the UK today at 11.40am courtesy of Emirates Airline. They were 'treated' to an extra night in Dubai as their plane was delayed and failed to make the connection. They will be in the UK for two months and staying with Andy & May Cumming in Giffnock.

Marriage Seminar

Felix Muchumba from GLO Zambia was able to help out with his wife Eva at a special marriage seminar for the young couples at Pasua church. The overnight say was particularly appreciated as people were able to enjoy time out from their busy and very hard lives and spend time relaxing with one another. The biggest thing most of them enjoyed was having water on tap, and hot too!!!
Teaching on marriage commitment and local church involvement was good, practical and very helpful, and all couples were at least willing to give the teaching a try!
Let us pray for them as we all know too well the difference between theory and reality when it comes to honouring the Lord in our marriages.

JANUARY PRAYER REQUEST'S

There is a great atmosphere around the centre these days since our return from Dar (the holiday week with the kids) and we pray that this may continue while we are home in the UK.

Remember the girls who are waiting on their Form 4 results, and those who have just started school. Pray that the children and young people will continue to grow in their walk with the Lord. We have a good group of staff but there will be more responsibility for them while we are away and we are sure they would value your prayers.

Bible School building work is going fast and furious as we try to have classrooms and the second toilet block finished before our return home. Desks and chairs etc. have to be made before the next session in March - Training for Life. Pray for this session: a 3 month course for Form six school leavers on the issues of life, handling your finances, finding the right partner etc. all with a sound biblical base. The course is being run by others while we offer accommodation and Bible teaching input etc. William and Eunice will be overseeing this course.

Felix Muchimba is coming from GLO Zambia to view school with a possibility of the school becoming GLO Tanzania. Pray that these meetings will go well. Pray for the three elders who will be left at Pasua church when we are at home.

The Pasua church needs a lot of wisdom and care when looking after so many within it who have such a wide variety of needs. Felix will come with his wife Eva and help to run a marriage weekend while they are here. We have invited the younger couples, about 10, to join us at a retreat centre for an overnight, and two days. This will be a special treat for these couples and we trust they will enjoy the experience, have a deeper commitment to their marriage, and to the local church.

Baptisms are happening on January 22nd, and some marriages will be blessed on 5th February, making them legal in the eyes of the government.

Pray for Ben who is sitting his mocks for some of his IGSCE's this term and also for his time when we are in UK. Pray for us as we have a short holiday before we come home. We have been extremely busy over this past year and we are grateful for the opportunity for rest before we start on a busy schedule while we are home. The heat is very draining and we are busy trying to finalize several projects and ensure things will run smoothly while we are away. Emotions run high as we are excited about seeing our own family and friends again, but we also leave behind children, young people, and a church that we have very much grown to love, and of course Ben who will not be joining us in UK until April.

Finally, the borehole is imminent. Again it is something we would like to see completed before we leave. Allan will be in touch with the company again on the 13th Jan to see if the drilling rig is now available. They have been full of promises - let's pray they come good.

Upendo in Scotland!

Upendo chat's on the phone to her friends from Emmanual House in Moshi. She has really enjoyed her stay in Scotland so far and has spent time already with Andy & May, Ian & Jean, Jim & Sheila, Marj Tulloch in London and Adi & Ruth. On 1st. January she travels to Aviemore to spend 3 months at the Abernethy Outdoor Centre which will give her an excellent opportunity to serve the Lord and help her improve her English. Pray that she is kept safe, finds good fellowship and friendship and grows in the Lord. Give thanks for her acceptance on the teacher training course at Tabora and for the deferment of her place until January 2007. She has also discovered, on a recent visit to Pollok Estate, that the cows in Scotland are no match for those in Tanzania!

Farewell to the students

Teachers and students eat traditional banana stew in the church outdoor kitchen at Pasua. This is a very a popular dish in Kilimanjaro region. It will be their last meal together this term. Students will be practising what they learned in bible school in their home churches over the next 9 months before returning for the final section of three months to complete there certificate course. Please remember to pray for each one of them, especially Leonce who will be extremely busy pastoring and encouraging the 22 new believers at Uchira.

Bible School Exams

The students have been able to sit their exams for the first time in one of the new classrooms (not this one obviously!). This is the final week of bible school and will conclude with the examinations. Please pray for the students as they prepare to return to their church fellowships better equiped and ready to serve. Keep praying for Allan and the rest of the team as they finish what has been a very demanding and exhausting 3 months.

KLB Pasua Invitation Sunday

Allan writes with news of last weekend in Moshi ~ "Well a very busy weekend but another one in the kingdom which is all so very worthwhile! We had over 180 people there this Sunday for our special invitation and the programme was a little different from usual - two speakers, a choir of 20 and a three hour service! Wow! Not for the faint hearted especially when these days the temperature can reach 90 deg F in the shade!
The highlight after our preaching on 'What do we know about the second coming of Christ?' was that one woman decided to be ready for His return! Praise the Lord! Several others needed prayer for difficult circumstances at home and I spent a good half hour counselling one family in our fellowship who are having a particularly hard time with aggressive neighbours who don't like their faith. Please join with us in thanksgiving and prayer for the further advance of His kingdom at KLB Pasua"

Building Update

Bible school classroom number two is approaching final finishing. Windows from the supplier have been delaying us, but should be well underway next week. External plastering has been completed to one end of the building and decorative brick should be added next week.

Maranatha house has made good progress and is looking special. Unfortunately there was a small incident when a tradesman fell from a ladder at roof level and is in hospital for observation, please pray for a full recovery.

22 saved at Uchira

Great news ~ 22 people were saved over the four days at the Uchira meetings. Over 200 gathered on Saturday and Sunday for meetings and the Jesus film. Discipleship classes continue Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Pray for Leonce the full time worker there as he continues the ministry after finishing Bible school at the end of November.

Outreach at Uchira

Uchira outreach.
The outreach at Uchira, a village where we have a full time worker and are trying to help with church growth, got off to a good start tonight with around 100 people meeting. Meetings will carry on over the weekend, and in the evenings of Saturday and Sunday the Jesus film will be shown. There is a lot of opposition in the area from others within the community. Please pray for safety in travel as we bus people from Pasua there each evening to help with this ministry, and that God will bring many to a knowledge of himself, and that they maybe able to grow in their faith with the help of the local Christians there. Seminars will take place Monday and Tuesday for those who have made a commitment of faith.

We are grateful to God for answered prayer on behalf of Robert who has now settled well into his apprenticeship at the local leather factory. He is moving around the various crafts so that he may become skilled in all areas of the work. He is learning to work with leather and wood in carving and creative design with end products meeting the market in the tourist industry. Some of Robert's handicrafts will reach to the furthest corners of the world!! Continue to pray for him as he continues to mature in his Christian life and receives counselling and direction from our local church pastor.

MCCC:

1 Ninaeli Finishes school at Chengelo in Zambia this month. Pray for safety in travel and peace in saying kwaheri's (goodbye's)!
2 Kassy Senga, who will be one of the occupants of the new Maranatha House has been given a lift by the progress to date.
3 Anna and Paulina finished Form IV this month and are going on a computer course and looking for suitable schools should they pass!
4 Robert doing much better and settled into the routine of work which he seems to enjoy. Pray for spiritual growth and development
5 New mama will be needed for the Centre in the near future. Prayer is needed that we might get the right person with the right qualifications.
6 Remember Mama Rehema and her family who are suffering from the devastating social effects of AIDS. Mama is infected but the children also suffer socially.
7 Pray for a suitable stand in supervisor(s) when Allan & Jacqui are on home assignment - February to May 2006.
8 Community kids clubs are going well but we have experienced some opposition recently. Please pray about that situation.

BIBLE SCHOOL:

9 Building progress is still good but been slowed by lack of materials! No B & Q here! The 'finishings' work continues.
10 Students in last month now. Exams in two weeks time. Teachers need the stamina to see things through to the grand finale!
11 Borehole is still in the pipeline and is scheduled soon (excuse the pun). Pray for completion of these plans asap.

12 Uchira meetings for 10th to 13th November
13 Jesus film on 12th and 13th evenings
14 New missionary - Brook Ford - from USA will be joining CMML/KLB in new year. Pray for her plans and work permit to serve in Kigoma area.
15 More missionaries are needed as work continues to expand. Pray that the Lord will call others to work with us in this part of the world.

JACQUI SENDS THE LATEST PRAYER NEWS .....

"Kindergarten is moving into its last month of the school term and several children will move on to primary education. We are in the early stages of registration for the school, and prayer is needed that this may go smoothly. A new play park that is planned to be started in the new year on the compound is in its planning stages.

Children’s Centre is going well and the girls especially are a blessing to us. Three girls were baptised last week, and they are so eager to grow in their spiritual lives. Now that some of the older girls have finished school there is a regular squad ready each week for the bible teaching meeting. The boys are just a bit slower but we trust they will get there. Joni was the last of the older boys to make a profession of faith on Tuesday past, but they all need to grow spiritually, and in their walk with the Lord. 'Maranatha House' accommodation for the older boys, will hopefully be started on soon. Pray that construction will go smoothly and the builder will be transparent in his dealings with us. Ninaeli finishes school in two weeks! Pray for her safety in travel back home and for us as we try to find a suitable school for her and the other girls going into form 5.

Communtiy projects continue to grow but the Tanzanian ethos to life sometimes pushes us to the limits. In spite of setbacks our guiding principle continues to be how can we best make these children “count for Christ'. Eliza and Rehema's mother is dying of aids and in hospital at the moment. There are plenty of relatives around that could take the children in. Their father doesn't want them because his new wife will not accept them. Their Uncle was released from prison at the beginning of the week, and their aunt has four children, two of whom are not to her present husband. Neighbours who have volunteered their services are in the business of making local beer and are involved in prostitution. Theory says they should stay at home with relatives but the heart wants to rescue them from that pit of trial and despair!!
Pray too for the weekly children's meetings in the community and for the opposition that has started there.

Bible school now entering its final weeks and progress is going well both with the students and on the building side. We hope to be still on target for finishing phase two by the end of the year. Praise God for the provision of funds.

Pray for the young people in church who are trying to make a fresh start with a renewed vision. Mel has joined the youth committee and Allan is acting as 'overseer/advisor'. They have a young people's outreach meeting on Friday and will be involved with the church in another outreach at Uchira, 15km from Moshi.

Continue to pray for Allan as he works on the final edit of the Swahili translation of Calling Christian Leaders."

Motoring Mayhem in Moshi!

Had a little traffic problem on the way to the office today? Spare a thought, and a PRAYER, for Allan's latest automobile adventure in Africa. Last week, a bus ran into the side of Allan as he drove through Moshi and refused to stop. Allan, shaken and anxious, rushed out of his car, and ran alongside the moving bus , 'encouraging' the driver to stop and exchange insurance details. Failing with this negotiation strategy, Allan then jumped, '007' style, onto the side of the moving bus, motivated obviously by his concern to maintain his 100% 'no claims' bonus. Perhaps, he had an appropriate verse to share with the impatient driver? However the bus driver, failed to respond positively to Allans 'outreach', refused to stop and landed him a solid right hook in the eye. 'Mr Bond' hung on and would not be dislodged from the side of the bus determined to confront the driver with his misdemeanour. Eventually, the driver realised the determined Scots missionary meant business and was not going to be shaken off, stopped the bus and ran off into the crowd. AFRICA!
The Kingston Bridge at 5pm doesn't seem quite so bad after all!
On the serious side, Allan has a colourful black eye and 4 stitches in his hand as a result of this incident.
Don't forget to PRAY today for Allan & Jacqui! Travelling in Tanzania does carry considerable additional risks. Allan will probably have as much problems getting the incident satisfactorily resolved with the police and owners of the bus as he did getting the driver to stop.

Agnes, one of the young people from MCCC being baptised as a believer in the Lord Jesus, with Pastor Bernard. Give God thanks that 3 of the 5 baptisms were girls from MCCC. Yasintha and Lucy, two sisters with special needs, joined Agnes in this step of obedience. Jacqui also asks us to rejoice that Lucia, one of the older girls from Emmanuel House, is volunteering to become a sunday school teacher at church. She writes "It is great to see them saved but brilliant when you see them growing in the Lord"
Some other urgent prayer requests have been received;

Please pray for two girls ~ Eliza and Rehema, Sunday school kids at Pasua who have been missing primary school because they are looking after their mother who is dying with HIV. There doesn't seem to be any relatives about to assist with care. They may join the MCCC community care programme.

My Trip to Moshi

Hi my name is Daniel Harris. During the summer holidays I went to Africa with my family. My Auntie Jacqui and Uncle Allan and my cousen Ben live in Moshi, Tanzania. The best thing for me was meeting all the lovely children. Also I got to clap an elephant, ride a girraffe, hold a Boa constrictor and much more. I would recommend going out there. It was a lifetime experience. I wish my family could go out to live there but probably not. Me and my mum went to help at the kindergarten every morning. I was so attached to the children I wanted to cry when I had to leave them. While I was there I picked up some Swahili (I am still not very good). We went to Kenya for a few days and I saw many people living on the streets. It was heartbreaking to see them living like this and I am so fortunate to live in a safe warm house. As you can see I made a lot of friends at the MCCC. Auntie Jacqui and Uncle Allan are doing the most amazing job I have ever seen but they are not the only people that can help. You can make a difference too. Even praying is making a difference. Please do not read this and forget to do anything about it. The photo's in a clockwise direction are as follows; CLASSROOM 1 ~ Glazing and floor in place. Final fix electics awaiting wall fans. Painting imminent. MAIN RECEPTION AREA ~ ready for painting. Hadija

Meet Hadija. Hadija is the latest addition to the MCCC family having come to us through the recommendation of the government’s social welfare programme. Hadija is only 4 years old but in so short a time has experienced severe and traumatic abuse of every kind. Her parents are being charged for the abuse and the matters are in the hands of the police. Hadija is staying with us indefinitely and it has been great to be able to offer her the love and attention she craves as a child. Her childlike trust and openness are striking and remind us of the words of the Lord Jesus who insisted that our faith should be like that of a child’s if we are to inherit the kingdom of heaven. Please pray for Hadija and for the MCCC staff as we trying to build meaningful and trustworthy relationships with this little girl whose implicit trust has been broken and betrayed so often in her young life. Pray that the Lord by his grace and mercy would minimise the effects of abuse in her life and that we may in time be able to show Hadija what it means to count for Christ.

Children are the heart of MCCC!
Orphaned and abandoned kids, AIDS victims, abused and marginalised children, disabled, special needs and victims of poverty are all helped, loved and cared for within the environment of MCCC. The Centre is currently home to 31 children from the ages of 4 to 24. Almost 40 needy children and families are supported in the community. The hostel accommodates children that attend KCMC for treament and prosthetics. The Centre runs a kindergarten class for 15 kids. Emergency care is provided to those in greatest need through the team of community workers.
You can be an active partner by sponsoring a child and making a real difference. Your help provides a home, security, health care and education until they reach adulthood and are able to live an independent life in the community. The majority of kids in Africa cannot escape the poverty trap and with this in mind a new Education Fund has been established to provide quality education, enabling children to maximise their potential and escape the rat race.

BIBLE SCHOOL UPDATE

The course is going well and the students have been well behaved on the whole. Now that a month has gone there is one or two pushing their luck in minor areas of discipline. Pray things will not get out of hand.
The teachers are doing well and coping although the pressure is telling a little already. Allan has been asked to consider putting in a 'half-term' break in mid-October!
Pray for Ian MacDonald from Greenview, Glasgow who is currently in Moshi for two weeks teaching at the bible school. Allan is translating for him as well as teaching.
Please keep praying for finances to complete the construction and fit out of the classrooms and library.
Please pray for the ongoing development of the school in its treaching programmes, management structures and affiliations. We are exploring associations with other groups like GLO who are experienced in Christian education.
Please pray for the students in their learning experience, that it may be life changing and ministry enhancing rather than just academic achievement.
